Wales is a great place to visit any time of the year. It really depends on what kind of experiences and tours are you looking for . Most of the travellers arrive between April and end of October , but there is plenty to do and see in winter as well.
Winter months are excellent for cosy breaks, foodie tours , whisky tastings , castle and museum visits. When it snows the landscape is gorgeous and the darker nights of autumn and winter are the best for stargazing .
If you are coming to see wildlife best times are :
Bird watching : The main season is between April and July when you are likely to see common guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and of course puffins but as with all seabirds outside of the breeding season they are only found out at sea Seals at Pembrokeshire coast : Seals can be seen swimming and playing in the waters around the coast at any time of year. They come ashore to moult in the winter and early spring, and females come ashore to pup in the autumn. You may see them and their fluffy white pups on undisturbed beaches from August to November.
Single travellers looking for a company , if you don’t have time to plan your trip and mostly but not lastly if you have a penchant for learning a little history, or hearing how something was made or painted or sculpted, or you like other kinds of information like a fascination with flora and fauna, you’ll like having local guides with you. We will take you to places you wouldn’t find otherwise – or certainly not without a lot of research and we will make sure you get to know the culture of the country you are visiting !
Qualified and register Blue Badge tourist guides are insured and go through extensive training. You can either join a public tour or we also offer private tours and tailor-made itineraries.
It really depends on the duration of the tour. Do bring your camera, an umbrella or a raincoat just in case. We always have comfort breaks or time to grab a coffee or tea and some snacks when the tour is longer than 2 hours.
Always wear comfortable shoes. We dress casually in Wales . Comfort while touring is the most important thing . During hot summer months wear a hat and make sure you have a raincoat
Make sure you have a rucksack and depending on the length of the hike make sure you have enough water with you . We are very nature conscious ; we see ourselves as the guardian of Wales therefore we recommend you use water bladders or reusable water bottles. As hikes can be a bit challenging make sure you have snack for the day. Sunblock and a hat for hot summer days and waterproofs for the rainy days.
We always send an e-mail with a list of things you will need for the day before the tour.
Please be sure to research the climate and weather conditions at the time of year you will be trekking and pack accordingly. There is also a packing ‘checklist’ in your Essential Trip Information. Wear hiking boots and comfortable walking trousers. Wear layers, it is usually cooler up in the hills. It can be rainy in Wales. Make sure you have waterproof jackets and trousers if the forecast is rain. We still have fun in the rain. We believe there is no bad weather only bad clothing. Wear a hat on hot summer days.
You can either book a private tour or one of our small group tours. Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes to a minimum. Small groups allow us to remain flexible with itineraries, use public transportation wherever we can and visit communities without intimidating the locals.
Most trips run with an intimate group of 12-16 maximum 20 travellers.

Food is one of the most exciting parts of travel. While there will usually be some familiar fare, you’ll also be confronted with the new, interesting and downright weird of the culinary world. We like to think of it as an adventure for all the senses!
If a meal is included in your tour and you have any allergies or dietary requirement, please advise us so we can make sure your requirements are met.
If you know in advance that you will be arriving late, please get in touch. We will leave instructions as to where to meet your group if you can make part of the tour.
If you signed up for a multi day tour and plan to arrive a day or two into the itinerary (and our group has moved to a different destination), it will be your responsibility to catch up with the group. If this happens, we will provide you with the most up-to-date information as to where your group will be and at approximately what time.
If you are late due to unforeseen circumstances or flight delays, please get in touch . Wales Trails cannot reimburse you for any portion of the trip unused, but this can often be claimed on your travel insurance.
Some places have wi-fi hot spots everywhere, and other places will have no coverage at all. If you stumble into the latter, take the rare chance to just sit back and get to know your fellow travellers the old-fashioned way. There are no WIFI on coaches, train companies usually do have WIFI .
In most places, tipping is expected.
If you’re happy with the service you received at the end of your trip, or meal at a restaurant though not compulsory, tipping is always appreciated.
While it may not be customary to you, it’s of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many destinations.
