Wales, with its stunning landscapes and charming towns, is easily accessible by rail. From London, Cardiff is just a two-hour ride via Great Western Railway, while the Manchester-Llandudno line, recently upgraded with first-class service and onboard meals by Transport for Wales, makes the journey even more comfortable. Cycle through Wales

Wales wasn’t  famous for cycling trails within the UK . The famous  900-mile end to end challenge bypasses Wales .

In 2016 a Dave Lewis a Welshman tried to fix this. He took on a circuit of Wales starting from his hometown of Pontypridd in South Wales and cycled 688 miles around the coastline. To encourage other bikers to do the same he  wrote a book of his  trip called Wales Trails.

It was quite funny when my partner told me about him and his book which has the same title as the brand name I chose for my business.  I was thrilled when I was introduced to him in a. cosy pub in Pontypridd. His book is informal end informative and entraining . It’s as if he’s sharing his travels with you over a pint… or two!  A must read to any keen cyclist !

Dave’s advice to plan your ride is :

The route: Any loop of Wales you fancy!

Duration: Take as long as you want, but he suggests two weeks or more to really get to know the country and it’s people!

Direction: Clockwise, to take advantage of the SW prevailing winds and also ‘cos it’s a Buddhist thing!

Start / Finish: You decide, it’s a loop after all so anywhere on the map is fine!

Charity: Up to you, but why not set up a Just Giving page and raise some cash for a good cause?

Aim: To put Wales on the ‘must do’ bikers list. ‘

Walk the Wales Coastal Path

Wales is truly a hiker’s paradise, offering some of the most stunning landscapes in the UK. From the rugged peaks of Snowdonia to the serene valleys of Brecon Beacons, there are trails for every level of adventurer. One of the highlights is the Wales Coast Path, a 870-mile trail that takes you along some of the country’s most dramatic and unspoiled coastlines, offering spectacular views of cliffs, sandy beaches, and hidden coves. As a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader I lead hikes myself . You can see some sample hikes here or check my profile on Mountain Training Association website .  If you wish to take on the challenge to Walk the Coastal Path, I can recommend my  lovely colleague’s Lucy O’ Donell’s book Slow Walking the Wales Coast Path . She took on the challenge during the pandemic .
